A Greenthumb Is Not a Goldfinger is the second episode of Josie and the Pussy Cats. It first aired on September 19, 1970 on CBS.
Summary[]
Thanks to Alexandra's scheming, the gang, thinking that they are headed to Nashville for a gig, end up in the Amazon jungle, where they encounter an evil botanist named Dr. Greenthumb, his man-eating plants, and headhunters.
Trivia[]
- Dr. Greenthumb and the episode title were partly inspired by the James Bond villain Auric Goldfinger.
- Dr. Greenthumb is somewhat remodeled from Mr. Greenway from the Scooby Doo Where Are You! episode, That's Snow Ghost, another character that Hal Smith voiced and uses the same mannerisms as Sydney Greenstreet's characters from the 1940s.
- Incidentally, when Alexandra gets accidentally assaulted by the Pussy Cats after getting mistaken for a creature plant, she gives reference to Scooby-Doo.
- The closing sequence of the plant creatures dancing to the Pussycats' music is inaccurate, since a few years after this episode aired, it was scientifically proven that rock and roll is detrimental to plants, and can easily kill them.
