He is a short man who has springs attached to his shoes. He and his partner, Hank, decide to extract quarks from gold and convert it into iron, convinced that gold is the root of all evil. Unknown to them, they're damaging everything from blackboards to steel cables.
At one point, Ben steals a small American flag from Mr. Whipple's desk at the Seismographic Institute, in order to distract Marvin White and Wonder Dog long enough for Hank to sabotage a seismograph. The plan fails due to Wendy Harris' refusal to budge, and Ben returns the flag. Eventually, both men see the error of their ways, and pay for all the damage.
