Bigmouth is an ogre seen in some episodes of the Smurfs cartoon series during the first eight seasons. He was voiced by Lennie Weinrib.
About Bigmouth[]
Bigmouth is obsessed with food. He's still a friend to the Smurfs. Howeer, his obesity, appetite, and ogre nature sometimes cause problems with them, like eating their smurfberry bushes and taking their food without asking. He sometimes sneaks into Gargamel's castle and eats food and non-edible items such as rocks. Gargamel protests against his behavior, but hides in his closet with Azrael until the ogre leaves. Towards the end of "Bigmouth's Friend," Bigmouth realized that Gargamel was not his friend after Gargamel told Bigmouth off, despite Bigmouth's attempts to help the evil wizard when in need.
Bigmouth loves other things besides food. In "Bigmouth's Friend," he becomes friends with Clockwork Smurf and joins the Smurfs after they save him, but he still causes trouble. In "Lazy's Slumber Party," he has a crush on Bignose, an ogress he later marries, and never hurts due to her expectations for him to behave; and in "Bringing Up Bigfeet," he watches over her nephew Bigfeet, a baby ogre.
Bigmouth's appetite can be worse than that of Greedy Smurf. Like other ogres, he is huge and strong but not intelligent.
Bigmouth had few friends because he was awkward and demanding. He tries too hard to get them, and on the rare occasion he did, his lack of social graces drove those new friends away. "Bigmouth's Friend" shows this best when he shows up at a family picnic and wants to play, unaware that they wanted family time.
Bigmouth always annoys Gargamel for frequently getting in the way of the wizard's evil schemes, so in retaliation, Gargamel uses a formula to transform Bigmouth into a Smurf in "Bigmouth Smurf", but continues causing problems for the Smurfs as usual.
In "Bringing Up Bigfeet," he sends Gargamel flying back to his castle when he attempts to capture the Smurflings, who were caring for his and Bignose's baby, Bigfeet. His new found hatred of Gargamel continued in some episodes, namely "Bringing Up Bigfeet" and "The Fastest Wizard in the World".
After "Bigmouth's Friend," where the Smurfs fix his new friend, Clockwork Smurf, Bigmouth is mostly an ally. Bigmouth becomes a friend of the Smurfs and asks them for help in "Educating Bigmouth," but Bignose leaves him because of his lack of manners, and the Smurfs help him and Bignose reunite. The Smurflings babysit his newborn son Bigfeet in "Bringing Up Bigfeet."
"Bigmouth's Friend" introduces Bigmouth to Clockwork Smurf, who makes Bigmouth a good ogre. "Hi!" was Clockwork's first word. The Smurfs repaired him after Bigmouth cried over the destruction of Clockwork.
