Black Widow is a character in Space Ghost and Dino Boy, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and Johnny Bravo. She was voiced by Ginny Tyler in Space Ghost and Dino Boy and by Judy Tenuta in Space Ghost Coast to Coast and Johnny Bravo. In her second appearance, her name was changed to Spider Woman, which she retained for the "Council of Doom" story arc. Her original name was restored in Space Ghost Coast to Coast. In the Dynamite Entertainment comic, her name is The Widow.
About Black Widow[]
She was based on the planet Telus, where an alien was brutally attacked by one of her monsters. After Space Ghost took him aboard for medical attention, he went to Telus, where Black Widow captured him. Jan, Jace, and Blip followed, and got caught in her web. They escaped, and Space Ghost defeated one of her creatures. Black Widow escaped with a warning, leaving a web behind. She returned in "Revenge of the Spider Woman", for which her name was changed. She teamed up with the Lizard Slavers from a previous episode to capture Jan, Jace, and Blip, and exact her revenge on Space Ghost. Once again, she was defeated along with her cohorts. Finally, she joined forces with Zorak, Metallus, Creature King, Brak, and Moltar to form the Council of Doom. In "Two Faces of Doom", she had Brak teleport the heroes to her Spider Lair, where she unleashed deadly spider plants. Space Ghost was able to bury them. She and the rest of the villains were ultimately defeated for good when their home base planet exploded.
Black Widow is a pale woman who wears a black dress and black opera gloves. She wears a hat with a red gem, red necklace with a spider symbol and red earrings. The hat resembles a spider's face. Black Widow is shown to have long black hair without the hat.
In Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Black Widow is a three-hundred-year-old sorceress who has often tried to get a man. Black Widow has a thing for Space Ghost much to the disgust of her fellow Council of Doom members. She has multiple ex-husbands.
Prose stories on the official Cartoon Network website had her hooking up with and marrying Ghost Planet News (GPN) reporter Vector Black only to end up in divorce.
Other Appearances[]
She also makes a cameo appearance in the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! episode "Don't Fool with a Phantom" as one of the wax figures in the Topsy Turvey Room, and hands Scooby and Shaggy a wax apple.
Black Widow got a blind date with Johnny Bravo. (Johnny Bravo: "Adam West's Date-O-Rama").
