Brainy Smurf (original French name Schtroumpf à Lunettes) is a character in Hanna-Barbera's Smurfs. He was voiced by Danny Goldman.

He wears glasses, takes everything in earnest and is almost constantly nagging or moralizing to the point that he drove the other Smurfs crazy. When speaking to other Smurfs, he usually starts with "Papa Smurf always says …", but the other Smurfs invariably throw him out of the village, and he lands on his own head. His only friend to share his company was Clumsy Smurf.
At the beginning of the series, he was a bookworm and a lab assistant. He was often more sympathetic in those days and would sometimes have a point. One time, he wanted to be the leader by becoming king and enslaved some of his fellow Smurfs for being disrespectful to him. But when Papa Smurf returned, he was scolded for causing a ruckus in the village and decided to clean up the mess (along with his friends).
But in Season 3, his ego started to build up with the introduction of his infamous self-published books featuring nonsensical ramblings in the manner of emulating Papa Smurf. He became even more of a problem in Season 6, to the point where he causes more damage than Gargamel, has less sympathy for others and refuses to admit he was wrong for the sake of comedy.
By the end of the series in the time-traveling arc of Season 9, despite his name, his intelligence dropped a lot and becomes more of a punching bag than he was before. Papa Smurf now has no problem in often expressing his anger towards Brainy than in trying to deal with him in a patient and gentle attitude.
Unlike most characters on the show, Brainy's personality had been flanderized more than once. He was turned from a more serious Smurf who followed the rules and annoyingly reminds every Smurf to listen to Papa Smurf's orders in the early seasons into a egotistical villain who wants to seize control of the village when no one wants to listen to him, only to ruin the lives of his fellow Smurfs in the later seasons.
