Captain Planet and the Planeteers was an animated adventure series created by Ted Turner as a means of raising awareness of environmental issues, and produced by Hanna-Barbera and DIC Entertainment. It premiered on TBS in September 1990.
Premise[]
Gaia, the earth spirit, has selected five teenagers, each from a different continent, as "Planeteers" to receive special rings. Each ring controls a different element:
- Kwame, Africa, earth
- Wheeler, North America, fire
- Linka, Eastern Europe, wind
- Gi, Asia, water
- Ma-Ti, South America, heart
When the Planeteers combine their elements, Captain Planet is summoned to oppose various "eco-villains" who are contributing to pollution.
