Dino

Dino (pronounced dee-no) is a main character featured in the Hanna-Barbera animated television series The Flintstones, and its spinoffs. He was voiced by Mel Blanc.

About Dino[]

He is a pet dinosaur of Fred and Wilma Flintstone.[1] He exhibits the characteristics of a typical domesticated canine. He is some generic sauropod. His species, as told in episode eighteen, is Snorkasaurus. He frequently leaps upon Fred Flintstone, yapping happily, and energetically licking his face. Dino could also be moved to anger, at which point he would snarl and snap. He also loves to play with Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm.

Dino debuted in the opening credits of the first episode of The Flintstones, but was not mentioned by name until the fourth episode, "No Help Wanted". His role was considerably altered in Episode Eighteen, "The Snorkasaurus Hunter", where he was portrayed talking in an apparent flashback story and, at the end of the episode, acting like a butler for the Flintstones, answering the phone, dusting and ironing. He also had blue skin instead of his later pink to red color. For that episode, he was voiced by Jerry Mann in an impersonation of comedian Phil Silvers. However, prior to and following that episode, Dino would only bark and exhibit the characteristics of a dog. In previous and subsequent appearances, Dino's Dog voice were vocalizations by Mel Blanc. After Blanc died in 1989, the role was taken over by Frank Welker. However, Blanc's voice was used for the 1994 live action film and its prequel, in which Dino was both a puppet and a CGI character.
