Disguise tricks are a staple of Hanna-Barbera comedy cartoons. They may be used by either heroes or villains.

This often overlaps with Cross-dressing characters. Do not include superheroes in their mundane identities, such as Blue Falcon posing as Radley Crown.

Tom and Jerry[]

  • In "Flirty Birdy", Tom Cat dons a crude female bird disguise to steal Jerry Mouse from an eagle.
  • In "Little Runaway", Tom disguises himself as a seal after hearing from the radio that the circus is offering a reward for the return of an escaped baby seal.

The Huckleberry Hound Show[]

  • In "Freeway Patrol", the bank robber whom Huckleberry Hound is pursuing tries to fool Huck with a female disguise. The two end up switching vehicles.
  • At the end of "Judo Jack", Dixie scares Mr. Jinks with his Judo Jack disguise.

The Quick Draw McGraw Show[]

The Flintstones[]

  • Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble often use disguises to avoid recognition by adversaries.
  • In one episode, Wilma Flintstone and Betty Rubble invade a Water Buffalo meeting with no more disguise than black mustaches.
  • In "Hot Lips Hannigan," Wilma and Betty disguise themselves as teenyboppers in order to prank Fred and Barney at the Rockland Dance Hall.
  • Wilmand Betty also don wigs as disguises when they head up to the Stone Mountain Ski Resort in "Here's Snow in Your Eyes."

The Yogi Bear Show[]

  • In "Disguise and Gals", two male bank robbers disguised as elderly women hide out in Jellystone Park, having filled a picnic basket with the stolen money. Yogi Bear and Boo Boo are initially unaware of the ruse.
  • In another short, Ranger Smith disguises himself as a polar bear, to test Yogi's willpower near picnic baskets.

  • In "The Cuckoo Patrol", all four members of the Vulture Squadron wear bird costumes while chasing Yankee Doodle Pigeon.

  • Scooby-Doo and Shaggy Rogers often don crazy disguises to fool the villain of the week, with varying levels of success.

The Harlem Globetrotters[]

  • In "Bad News Cruise", while on the cruise ship, a sleeping Curly Neal falls through a laundry chute into a pile of feminine clothing. When he emerges accidentally disguised as a woman, the Globetrotters' rivals are momentarily fooled.

Help!… It's the Hair Bear Bunch![]

  • Hair Bear and his two companions often adopt human disguises in attempting to escape the Wonderland Zoo.

Hong Kong Phooey[]

  • One villain, Dr. Disguiso, is a master of disguise. At one point he impersonates Rosemary.
  • Another villain, Phil the Farmer, impersonates Hong Kong Phooey to claim the hero's rewards.

Jabberjaw[]

  • The human Neptunes often wear disguises, in their usual color schemes, to fool the villains.

Dynomutt, Dog Wonder[]

  • "The Sinister Symphony" features Many Faces, a criminal master of disguise. His disguises tend to fool Dynomutt, especially when Many Faces impersonates Blue Falcon.

The All-New Popeye Hour[]

  • In "Play It Again, Popeye", Bluto poses as Sydney Whitestreet, hoping to find the treasure before Popeye and Olive Oyl do.
  • In "Take It or Lump It", Bluto, disguised in a wig, bow tie and glasses, takes over as host of the game show, hoping to make Popeye's experience more dangerous.

  • Gargamel often uses disguises, some more sophisticated than others, to invade the Smurfs' village.

The Kwicky Koala Show[]

  • In one Kwicky Koala short, Wilford Wolf, thinking Kwicky to be the nearest thing to a teddy bear, uses a series of disguises, including a recliner salesman, to capture Kwicky in his home.

Pac-Man[]

  • In a few shorts, the Ghost Monsters disguise themselves in trying to invade the Power Pellet Forest.
  • In "A Bad Case of the Chomps", the Ghost Monsters pose as plumbers, hoping to attack Pac-Man in his own home. Chomp-Chomp blows their cover in tearing off Blinky's disguise.
  • In "The Bionic Pac-Woman", Pac-Man poses as his own wife's robotic double to rescue the real Ms. Pac-Man from Mezmaron.

The Little Rascals[]

  • In "Rascals' Revenge", Butch scares Alfalfa with a mirror routine, complete with bow tie and fake cowlick, and later pursues the other Rascals while wearing one of Captain Mildew's old diving suits. The next day, Darla Hood disguises Pete the Pup as a moon creature to scare Butch and Woim in return.
  • In "Yachtsa' Luck", Spanky and Alfalfa don a nautical jacket and eyepatch to enter a tavern and recover a sack of stolen gold coins.
  • In "Just Desserts", Alfalfa is compelled to dress as a girl and replace the ailing Darla in the baking contest.

  • Hornswoggle often uses a disguise to deceive Andy or the mortal kids.
