Dr. Ashida is a character in Jonny Quest.
About Ashida[]
He lived on an island somewhere in the Asian Pacific region. He named this island Ashida after himself. For twenty years, he genetically altered the Tabora lizard, which was in danger of extinction in 1944. He showed the Quest team one that was slightly larger than its predecessor, and then a few that were as big as Komodo Dragons, or even certain species of dinosaur. These were kept in deep pits. Ashida clearly suffered from delusions of grandeur, declaring himself a new god for the natives to worship, as they had previously worshiped a dragon idol.
He was also verbally and physically abusive to his manservant Sumi, the keeper of the dragons, caning him for letting a native escape. When the group decided to leave late at night, their escape was blocked by the dragons, and Ashida promised to let them go if Race beat Sumi in a wrestling match. Race did beat Sumi, but instead of keeping his word, Ashida imprisoned them in a subterranean chamber. They escaped when Race diverted the attention of the dragons, and the rest safely returned to the ship, where Race eventually joined them. Ashida angrily ordered Sumi to take his punishment for letting them get away, but Sumi picked up Ashida and threw him into the dragon pit.
