George the Stegosaur is a character from the CBS Storybreak episode "The Shy Stegosaurus of Cricket Creek". He was voiced by Hal Smith.
About George[]
George is a large, olive green stegosaurus. He is indeed shy, most of the time. Aside from being an introvert, he's also altruistic, loyal, and friendly.
Two siblings named Joan and Joey unexpectedly meet him one day after the kids go horseback riding and they encounter a rattlesnake. But before the rattler attacks them, George comes to their aid and swipes the snake aside with his tail. Although Joan and Joey are stupefied, and can hardly believe they actually found a live, talking dinosaur at first, they thank George for rescuing them. Normally, he doesn't reveal himself to others, but he makes an exception for Joan and Joey. They befriend him and learn that he is the last dinosaur in existence. He suffers from a toothache, so to ease the pain, Joan gives him something as chewy as bubblegum on which to nibble. George wishes not to be revealed to the rest of the world, so Joan and Joey promise to keep his existence a secret. When the kids learn the stegosaur doesn't have a name, it is Joan who christens him George on the spur of the moment.
George is afraid of pterodactyls. So when an airplane flies overhead, he mistakes it for one, but Joan tells him it's an airplane. Later, Joan and Joey learn about a few men who pull off a bank robbery. While Joey goes off to get help, Joan stays behind with George. George has the ability to hide himself via camouflage. So when the robbers approach, he blends in with a rock formation. While Joan talks to George and he doesn't answer, she's unaware until the robbers find her alone, and confront her, that they catch her spying on them, and attempt to abduct her. When George sees his newfound friend in trouble, he musters his courage and saves the day again by sideswiping the plane in which the robbers attempt to escape. Unbeknownst to them, he's the cause of this.
After the robbers are apprehended, the police and Joan and Joey's dad, a paleontologist, arrive at the scene and find a stegosaur tooth, which George spat out and that got stuck to a wad of gum he left behind. To prevent being discovered and ensure that never happens, George is forced to move away from Cricket Creek. The kids say their goodbyes and Joan gives him a going-away gift: A box of more sticks of bubblegum. Once they bid their farewells to him, he departs.
