Hanna-Barbera recordings go all the way back to the late 1950s. The earliest ones were 78 and 45 rpm singles released on Golden Records. Soon after, full-length LP's were released on Colpix Records, which was a division of Columbia Pictures, whose Screen Gems division was the distributor of their television cartoons.
In 1965, Hanna-Barbera Records was formed. This label released many albums and singles, of not only soundtracks of HB animated features and TV series, but also original material performed by the characters themselves. There was even an "adult" division of non-cartoon soundtracks and pop music, ranging from everything from surf music to psychedelia. This label only lasted for two years.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Hanna-Barbera story records and soundtracks could be found on many different labels. By the 1990s, when the studio had become part of Warner Bros., Rhino Records (also a division of Warner Bros.) began to release CD's of Hanna-Barbera material.
