He is the husband of Irma Boyle, and the father of Chet, Alice, and Jaime Boyle. He owns the Boyle Restaurant Supply company, and often has conflicts with his family, and his neighbors Ralph Kane and Sara Whittaker.
He first appeared in the Love, American Style segment "Love and the Old-Fashioned Father", in which he didn't trust a new boy Alice was dating.
