Summary[]

At a local carnival, Buckwheat, accompanied by supposedly one of his uncles, decides to demonstrate his camera which he created using scavenged components. After Alfalfa learns that Waldo wants to win Darla's affections by competing in a horse race, Alfalfa decides to enter Malady the horse in the horse race in an effort to win Darla back. However, Alfalfa doesn't know how to ride a horse, so he quickly learns how to ride Malady in preparation for a horse race in which he and Waldo compete, trying to win Darla's affection. Alfalfa ends up winning the race by a nose, after a photo finish. At the end of the segment, Buckwheat uses his homemade camera at the carnival to take pictures of various children mounted on the horse, and the horse smiles for the camera as the segment closes.

Notes/Trivia[]

  • Pete the Pup does not appear in this episode.
  • This is the final new episode to feature Waldo. His official last appearance was in a rebroadcast of "Class Act", which aired four weeks later.
  • The German-dubbed broadcast had the English version of the title card, unlike the Season 1 segments.
  • Despite heavy mentioning of Darla, she has very few appearances in this segment. She also has very few appearances in "Just Desserts".
  • When Darla wished Alfalfa good luck with the race, she kissed him on the cheek - but unlike in "Rascals' Revenge" and "Rock & Roll Rascals", Alfalfa did not blush.
    • Given that Darla appears to be six years old in the series, this kissing practice would constitute as sexual harassment in real life.
  • Although unconfirmed, it is possible that Alfalfa's trademark cowlick enabled him to win the horse race. If true, this moment would later be carried over to the 1994 movie The Little Rascals in the Go-Kart race scene.
  • This episode is the only time Waldo does not wear his traditional captain's hat for the entire duration.
