Howard William Cosell (born Howard William Cohen, 25 March 1918 – 23 April 1995) was a well-known American sports journalist, most active and famous with ABC Sports in the 1970s. Cosell was known for his blustery, cocksure personality.
In 1993, TV Guide named Cosell the All-Time Best Sportscaster in its issue celebrating 40 years of television. In 1996, the same magazine ranked him #47 on its list of the 50 greatest TV stars of all time.

- In the second issue of the Marvel Laff-a-Lympics comic book, a Cosell caricature named Roger Rankle was hired to replace Snagglepuss and Mildew Wolf as the Laff-a-Lympics commentator.
- In The All-New Popeye Hour episode "Olive's Shining Hour", the tennis announcer is a voice caricature of Cosell.
- Dirty Dawg, a character on The Kwicky Koala Show, is another voice caricature of Cosell.
