Summary[]

Alfalfa has launched a detective agency, and designated Porky and Buckwheat as deputies. Alfalfa's first client is Darla, who reports that her doll, Jennifer, is missing. Spanky is the prime suspect. The boys try to find clues, then discover writing on a notepad with instructions on where to acquire a package that Alfalfa learns is a microscope for a birthday party in his honor.

Spanky had money left over to buy gifts for everybody, including a rock for Buckwheat, a steak for Porky and a bone for Pete. As for Darla, Spanky had given her back the doll, with a new dress to go with it. Spanky claimed he needed the doll to get its measurements. Alfalfa used his periscope, which Buckwheat built from the broken microscope, and discovered that Butch and Woim were approaching, so the gang decided to remain in the treehouse and party for the remainder of the day.

Notes/Trivia[]

  • The story writer was not mentioned in the title card. This may be due to the length of the title, as well as its larger font size.
  • This episode was loosely based on the final Our Gang theatrical short produced by Hal Roach, "Hide and Shriek", in which Alfalfa wears a deerstalker cap, Buckwheat wears a Foreign Legion kepi, and Darla is the victim. The theft involves a baby carriage (though in "Hide and Shriek", Darla was missing a box of candy, which she later found in a carriage).
  • Alfalfa's code name, Agent X-10, may have been inspired by Secret Agent X-9 (later retitled Secret Agent Corrigan), a newspaper comic strip that ran from 1934 to 1996.
  • At the party, the Rascals have a birthday cake with lit candles. It can be inferred that the candles were lit without adult supervision.
