Tom during the 'Chuck Jones era' cartoons
Thomas "Tom" D. Cat is one of the main anti-heroic protagonists of the Tom and Jerry franchise, alongside Jerry Mouse. He is a blueish grey and white domestic short-haired cat who first appeared in the 1940 animated short "Puss Gets the Boot", where he was originally named 'Jasper'. However, from his next appearance in "The Midnight Snack" onward, he went by Thomas "Tom".
