Summary[]

The Rascals are at Joe's Junkyard in search of an Aladdin-style lamp after Spanky read about Aladdin and his magic lamp. The gang eventually discovers an Aladdin-style lamp that they believe grants three wishes. Darla wishes for a new horse, and gets her wish fulfilled as she adopts one.

Meanwhile, Buckwheat acquires an old microcomputer, Spanky wishes for a lot of money, and Porky wishes for several freshly-baked pies. Those items were apparently nearby, in the junkyard. Spanky asks Buckwheat to find a bank to invest his newfound fortune (this was long before the Internet became commercially viable). In return, Buckwheat draws a map in the style of the video game Pac-Man, and tells Spanky to use the map to find a place to hide his money. Meanwhile, Porky uses the computer to play a Pac-Man style game involving a fish-like character chomping pies. The character grew bigger, and eventually destroyed the computer, angering Buckwheat. But regardless, the kids head to the bank to invest the money Spanky acquired.

Upon arrival, the bank manager accuses the boys of robbery, and they end up fleeing to avoid getting caught, and Darla's horse, with Porky and Alfalfa mounted on top, gallops into the bank and Spanky and Buckwheat mount and escape from harm's way.

Back at the Rascals' treehouse, Officer Ed came by to arrest the Rascals (as they put their hands up after coming down on the elevator), but the gang explain their side of the story, and they were pardoned but on the condition that they return the items to their rightful owners. Officer Ed took the horse that Darla adopted with him, and Spanky tossed the so-called magic lamp into the back of Joe's Junkyard truck. Later, Joe, the junkyard owner, gave Pete a bone as a reward, and the Rascals realize the lamp does have magic powers after all - and the Rascals are chasing after the truck to reclaim the magic lamp.

Notes/Trivia[]

  • This episode may be a callback to the Our Gang theatrical short "A Lad 'n a Lamp".
  • The Rascals supposedly broke the law in the Our Gang short "Tiny Troubles", but were pardoned.
  • After the gang mounted Darla's adopted horse and fled from the bank, a company named ABC was seen as the horse ran through the downtown streets. This may be a reference to the broadcast network on which this series originally aired, but it is likely a different kind of company in this episode.
