Valerie Brown is a character on Josie and the Pussy Cats. In the band, she plays the tambourines. She was voiced by Barbara Pariot.
About Valerie[]
Valerie is a young African American teenage girl with a short, black, tight curly bob, brown skin, red lips and black irises.
Her primary wardrobe is a purple sleeveless short dress with a pink long sleeve button shirt underneath with a matching collar and purple Mary Jane shoes with grey soles. She also wears a belt to match her dress.
In the musical sequences, she wears the feline suit costume, and she plays the tambourines.
In Josie and the Pussy Cats in Outer Space and, like Josie and Melody, Valerie wears a golden yellow space suit with an orange sailor collar and a matching belt with the Pussycat buckle and brown boots.
Valerie uses her genius intellect to help the gang solve various mysteries and subdue villains, much like Velma Dinkley before her and Dee Dee Skyes after her. She also has a doppelganger named Princess Milwila.
Although she is intelligent, Valerie shows rare moments of annoyance with Alexander's cowardice or Alexandria's stubbornness. She also displays moments of incompetence in a few episodes.
Asides her intelligence, Valerie has a comical side in the episode, A Greenthumb Is Not a Goldfinger, when Alexander shows her the kitchen sink, Valerie is shown laughing at her own joke.

- She is notable for being the first black female lead in a Hanna-Barbera animated TV series, or in any other TV cartoon.
- She was the only one who didn't get affected by the rapid aging mist in "Don't Count on a Countess".
- While her college major is unknown, she has taken courses in electrical engineering in "The Nemo's a No No Affair", electronics in "Swap Plot Flop", mechanics in "X Marks the Spot" & "Spy School Spoof" , and chemistry in "Don't Count on a Countess".
- Despite her intellect, she is prone to get into comical situations.
- In a couple scenes in most of the episodes, Valerie's skin turns white.
